Why You Should Make Sure Your Vehicle Has A Full Fuel Tank Throughout This Winter

In the winter, it is especially important for you to think about topping off your gas tank. Many people are not sure why this should be a common practice and we here at Kempthorn Volkswagen are here to help shed some light on the subject.

When a vehicle does not have a tank full of fuel the remaining volume that isn't taken up by the fuel is air. This air, depending on ambient temperature and humidity, holds moisture in it. When the temperature drops there is a good chance that the moisture in the air that is trapped in the fuel tank is going to condense and then freeze. This can clog up fuel filters, gas lines, and fuel injectors. If that same fuel tank was topped off with gasoline, then there would be no room for air to settle into the fuel tank and eventually freeze in the colder weather.
